The First Thing?

I’ve not made a major announcement of my grandchildren on social media, before.

Today is different.

Our tenth grandchild and sixth granddaughter arrived today at 5:30 a.m.

She was only a tad late, and had attempted to get here all week long. Had all the pro’s fooled.

So finally, we relax, our worried prayers turning to exclamations of joy.

Finally we enjoy the sweet fruits of our lovely children’s labors, all nine months and eight days, plus 12 hours of it.

It’s a wonderful day to be born!

I’m serious, here.

Do you live in a slum built around and with the contents of a huge landfill?

Read on.

In our country living near garbage is considered dangerous, toxic, and illegal. Especially if you have children, it is wrong to attempt such a life.

In other countries, though, life with garbage is the only method of survival. No one cares if that is where you choose to live. Therefore, since sometimes people throw away great stuff, it can be a means of income, recycling and selling one man’s trash, which can become your treasure.

But the children!

Check out what becomes of the children, here.

You will weep.

I’m pretty sure of it.

Do you live in a garbage heap?

Angels sing?

I may have missed it, but–

I’ve checked and checked in the Bible and–

I cannot find any place where angels sing.

Consider:

And suddenly
there was with the angel
a multitude of heavenly host
praising God, and

SAYING,

glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace,
good will toward men.

Luke 2:13-14

I know we say they were singing, but it says they were saying.

Just saying . . .

What Entraps You?

What do you like more than you like your family? That’s it.

What do you think of when your mind is on auto-pilot? That’s it.

Whatever you do that divides you from any member of your family. That’s it.

  • Making a grocery list during the sermon? Entrapped by productivity?
  • Emailing while husband talks to you? Entrapped by social media?
  • Bending the truth? Entrapped by making a good appearance?
  • Ruining your health for no good reason? Entrapped by sugar or leisure?
  • Zoning out when others are talking? Entrapped by vain imaginations?

Okay, sometimes we find the truth divides. It’s okay to do the truth and cause division, when you cannot avoid division because of the truth.

It is not okay to:

  • beat people with the truth for no reason
  • redefine the truth for false motives
  • lie and pretend it is truth
  • tell yourself there is no hope
  • enjoy the division

We have so many reasons to prefer division, it’s a wonder anyone still has a family!

The best definer I ever heard of Christianity is: relationship.

Every relationship has the potential to be a picture of Christianity; every broken relationship is a tragedy.

Breaking the family is the greatest tragedy.

Why do we go there so willingly?

After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision:

“Do not be afraid, Abram.
I am your shield,
Your very great reward.”

But Abram said, “O Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.”

Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son coming from your own body will be your heir.” He took him outside and said, “Look up at the heavens and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Genesis 15:1-5

And here we are.

And we still cannot count them.
