There is a place of quiet rest
Near to the heart of God–
A place where sin cannot molest–
Near to the heart of God.
Oh, Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.
There is a place of comfort sweet
Near to the heart of God–
A place where we our Savior meet–
Near to the heart of God.
Oh, Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.
There is a place of full release
Near to the heart of God–
A place where all is joy and peace–
Near to the heart of God.
Oh, Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

Katherine,
That’s a beautiful poem/prayer. Thank you for sharing it.

Rita,
Thanks for your kind comment and welcome to Home’s Cool!
It is one of my favorite hymns, nearly perfect in poetry and in melding with the tune, which is quiet and contemplative. I often sing it to myself when I am waiting for God to show me His next move . . .
Longing to be so near His heart.
Me, too, Karen. Nearer every day.
Such a beautiful poem. The sentiment expressed is something we need to remember when we feel that life is getting too much.
Wish I could sing it for you! It is so beautiful, and a great one for “those days”!
Oh Scared Head Now Wounded seems like a perfect Good Friday hymn. Minor key mingling with grief and scorn.
You’ve carried us from the cross to the grave, Near to the Heart of God.
I love this hymn. So many sweet memories of singing it with my Dad. He had such a beautiful tenor voice. Almost perfect pitch. I miss him.
His pitch is absolutely perfect now.
I hope your Easter is a joyful celebration, K!

Oh, Debbie,
My dad had a bass voice, beautiful, which some of my sons inherited. We used to sing together when I was young. He and Mom taught us to sing harmony and it was difficult but fun to get it right. We recognized the beauty. I never knew this hymn, though, until I was quite grown and he was gone. What a joy it would have been to sing one more time with him!
Thanks for this comment and for reminding me of good memories.
