Notice: You Are Safe at Home’s Cool

In Arkansas, the state from which I post, home schooling is protected by law. Home schooling parents are a protected group.

I have researched today what to do about violent content in the comments.

I think any attack on a commenter is inexcusable. Every commenter on my site is a guest, and as such, is at my mercy.

My commenters need to feel they are safe at my site.

Yesterday’s post, which is part of a 4-part series beginning here, has been published in a popular homeschooling magazine (circulation, 22,000) and my editor printed it word for word, so I do not feel it was an unwise post.  The WordPress crew is welcome to correct me on that, in private. I will respond, accordingly.

I have done all I can to make peace, but so far have received no response. I cannot afford to wait longer.

Sadly, for the first time in two years, I must remove a comment from yesterday’s post.

I welcome disagreement.

But hate speech directed toward my commenters will not be protected on this site.

All readers are welcome, welcome, welcome.

All commenters are welcome, welcome, welcome.

And anyone who is driven to hatred by reading here is welcome to turn the page.

    1. Me, too, Bats.
I love discussion and expect disagreement, although, of course, I think I am right!!! 😉
I was shocked at the attacks on me and on one of my commenters. I removed the ones against my commenters, as she used words I would have removed, anyway. Sighs.
The hard part is having felt this attacker was a friend, someone who came by often and left thought-provoking comments that truly added to the discussion. And an amazing artist . . .
Shocked, but sad, too. I consider the loss of a relationship a truly sad disaster.

      1. Oh Katharine, I am sorry. I know that was hard to have to go through. No matter what you write, you are a wonderful dearest woman. Thank you for taking the time to do it.

    1. Oh, just a small disagreement over some things I said on the previous post. I was sad that one follower has become angry. Some unkind words exchanged. All is better, now. Do not worry. I am old enough to manage it!

  1. I am not communicating very clearly, I can see.
I have removed only the comments that were directed against other commenters. You may not have noticed I removed more than just your comments, although the other, protesting your incivility, was politely worded.
You may rail against me, here, all you want, as long as the vocabulary level remains below a PG level. This is a general-audience site.
When one commenter uses name-calling with bathroom words and/or aims it at another commenter, I will step in. That is final.
And until you teach me that your behavior, here, can be trusted, your comments will remain under moderation.
If you find my content inflamatory, why read it? Obviously, I do not agree with all content I find at your site, but have I ever left you to deal with anything unpleasant?
The general dictates of civil conversation include that you would take issue with me in private when relating to my faults.
I do not expect all people to agree with me and I do not expect you and I to agree with each other.
But we will not attack commenters.
    Period.
Is that asking too much? Not according to the research I did at the WordPress forums, yesterday.

  2. Your house, your rules. You and you alone get to decide whether you feel insulted, minimized, etc. Your views and research on home schooling are thorough, encouraging and enlightening. I am on guard for keeping safe environment on my blog, too. I get it. good job.

    1. Thanks, so much, Kate. So much is going on, here, and I need to do wedding!!! However, I’m about to just let it roll. 😀 I am tired of the tussle. Right now am working at the local library due to loss of connectivity and not wanting to be accused of cowardice. Sighs. 😉
