The Best Gift I Ever Received

Receive

You can build
On sand and be filled
With hopes that just wash away.

But there’s a Rock
That will unlock
All the fears you have of dying.

He wants to give life to you
And all He’s asking of you
Is to receive.

All the time
That you’ve been blind
He’s opened His love to you.

And now He’s here;
He’s calling in your ear,
Asking you to love Him, too.

He’s breathing life in you
And all He’s asking of you
Is to receive–

Receive.

Your life.

I never thought it could happen,
What happened to me:
That I could see Jesus
And be set free.

Oh, but I saw Him.
I loved Him.
And I saw me.
I saw the real me.

And so I got down on my knees
And I asked Him to help me believe
And I received.

I received.

My life.

  1. I wonder if i will do this some day. I hear this message alot. My mind tells me i’m flaking out if i whole-heartedly get down on my knees. I believe most people have been on their knees — they still believe in their “way” as do i. Maybe i’ll never know the ultimate of true belief, or acceptance … just pontificating … been absent from the blog-trog. melis

    1. And I have missed you!
I worried that this song would make folks think we have to kneel to pray, but we do not. That is only an outward thing. Sometimes God’s people kneel, sometimes they do not. It is a heart matter. The real way to receive all God has for us is just to go to Him in prayer, talk to Him, whole-heartedly open our hearts to Him. I was in bed when I received this gift, crying myself to sleep, and just talking to God, whom I did not know for sure even existed. He heard me, though.
He understands our frailties and knows how to help us in the midst of them.
If He did not, who on this earth could He help? The strong? I don’t think so.
He has already provided us true acceptance, but as you put it, we don’t all know it, and as Annie put it, we don’t all receive it.
      Praying for you.

  2. Oh, this is so good. Even though twas not YOU who wrote it. Thank you for sharing it. It is a simple but TRUE message. This line: I never thought it could happen What happened to me: That I could see Jesus And be set free. Is so true for me. I tried for 38 years to believe it did happen and then when HE came to me and CAUSED me to surrender, it happened. HE SET ME FREE. His grace is SO amazing. I am so thankful that I can say, “I know He loves me and I love Him.” I love him as best as I can.

Thank you for sharing this, Kathy.

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Karen!
The simplicity of the truth is the best part, I think. It matters not where or how, just that we come to Him, simply, He says “like a child”, and He accepts us just the way we are. Some do not believe, simply because it is so simple.
To me, the glory is that He does not abandon us to “just the way we are” but in His mercy, He helps us become all we were meant to be. And He places us in this loving family that can reach out to us in our need and give us that hand up whenever we need it, and show us more and more of His ways. That is the glory–His never-ending, merciful willingness to help us be better than we could ever have dreamed.
But we all have to have a starting point, some earlier and some later. Who knows His timing? One thing: He always waits until we are ready. 🙂

  3. These words came like light from heaven straight into my struggling heart. You are right, ” all we have to do is ask and graciously receive God’s abundant blessings.” Every word of this poem or I shall call it, a ” divine message” brings forth encouragement and hope. God bless you and the work that you do.
Wishing you and your family all the blessings of love, peace, joy and good health this Christmas and everyday. A toast for making it in 2011 and here’s to an amazing 2012 for all of us.

    1. Wow, Traveler, Thanks for this gracious comment! I am so glad it blessed you.
Yes, Annie can write a “divine message” can’t she. Wish you could hear her sing it. This song got me through many years of trial, and still blesses me to this day, but the gift it speaks of is the real truth, that we can see Jesus and be set free. Oh what gift, what a wonderful gift! Who can tell the wonders of the Lord? Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts!
May you and your precious family be blessed, too.
